How long is your arm sore after a tattoo?
A lot depends if you are following the aftercare instructions after your arm tattoo and no infection has set in. In general, the soreness from a new tattoo on arm should last between 3-6 days. Some of my clients ask if it is normal that their tattoo is still sore after 3-4 days – and it is fully normal. On some body parts where the tattoo is in intensive contact with the clothes, soreness can last even longer.
Where is the least painful place to get a tattoo? Is arm the least painful?
The least painful places to get a tattoo are areas of your body with fewer nerve endings. That would be the outer shoulder, calf, and outer arm. This could be a bit different for women and men, to see which body parts would be the best choice for you have a look at the pain charts below:
Do shoulder and arm tattoos hurt?
The outer part of your shoulders has thick skin with few nerve endings, making it one of the least painful places to get tattooed. The pain of being tattooed here is usually low to low-moderate.
What happens to an arm tattoo when you lose weight?
Tattoo appearance might change after large weight loss or weight gain. A lot will depend on the design – for example precise, geometrical designs are less flexible and they can be ruined when you would lose/gain a lot, looking off-point, or stretched and faded.
If you can expect that there will be a major weight change in your life maybe consider waiting with a tattoo a while for when your weight will be stable.
Tattoo armbands meaning
According to most sources, a solid black armband tattoo can represent the loss of a loved one. The shape effectively symbolizes the act of wearing the memory of the deceased on your sleeve.
Other meanings for the solid armband tattoo can also symbolize strength, luck, and courage. By highlighting the bicep muscle, the solid black band also highlights physical strength.
Tattoo on arm with a lot of hair
The question that many men ask is can you get a tattoo if you have hairy arms? For sure you can have a tattoo, you would have to shave for the session but it would be worth considering if later amount of hair that you have will not cause problems for your tattoo to be visible.
If you want to show your tattoo to everyone you would have to consider if you are willing to keep the area shaved all the time.
Tattoo on arm healing
After getting a fresh tattoo it generally takes 3 to 4 weeks for the top layer of skin to heal, and six months until the dermis is fully healed. Be careful with your tattoo aftercare, avoid water, and sun, and keep your new tattoo clean, and provide fresh air frequently. Listen when the tattoo artist gives care tips, they are really important and help reduce pain after getting a tattoo on your hip.

Design and tattoo ideas
For some ideas you can have a look at those 3 books with hundreds of designs that I use with my clients, they are available on Amazon for Kindle or in classic, paper version (links below):
- Great Book of Tattoo Designs, Revised Edition: More than 500 Body Art Designs (Fox Chapel Publishing) Fantasy, Celtic, Floral, Wildlife, and Symbol Designs for the Skin by Lora Irish
- The Big Book of Small Tattoos – Vol.1: 400 small original tattoos for women and men by Roberto Gemori
- Tiny Tattoos: Over 1,000 Small Inspirational Artworks by Rebecca Vincent.
If you would like to read more about the meaning of different tattoo styles and designs before you will decide what you would like to have, I can recommend a book that was really useful for me when I was starting my tattoo adventure – it’s “Conscious Ink: The Hidden Meaning of Tattoos” by Lisa Barretta (through the link you can find it on Amazon for around $10).
The skin at the tattoo site often dries out. To prevent it and speed up healing for my clients, I usually recommend one of those tattoo aftercare balms (you can find them on Amazon):
