Are you concerned that you cannot wear your AirPods after getting a new piercing? After getting a new piercing, certain dos and don’ts to help the piercing heal fast and without complication. However, can you wear AirPods with a new piercing, or will that cause any harm?
You can wear AirPods with a new piercing if the piercing isn’t located where the piercing pushes. However, if the AirPods push on the new piercing, they may cause pain, swelling, or even infection. Therefore, you must consider where the location of the piercing and the type of AirPods.
If you wear AirPods daily, you might be worried that you won’t be able to use them while your new piercing heals. However, depending on the piercing’s location and the proper care instructions, you may be able to wear your AirPods while your piercing heals. So, what can and can’t you do with a new piercing?
Are AirPods Harmful To A New Piercing?
When you first get a new piercing, there are many things you should and shouldn’t do to ensure the piercing heals without getting infected, rejecting, or causing other problems. Taking care of your new piercing is essential if you want it to heal correctly.
Therefore, your piercer will likely give you a list of dos and don’ts while your piercing heals. For example, they’ll tell you how and when to clean the piercing, sleep on a new piercing, and what to avoid doing if you want the piercing to heal fully.
However, while your piercer may explain some of the most common things to avoid doing when you have a new piercing, they won’t mention some of the more specific questions you have regarding caring for your new piercing. For example, can you wear AirPods with a new piercing? Well, if you forgot to ask the piercer this before leaving, you’ll be glad to know that we have the answer.
Whether you can wear your AirPods with a new piercing depends on where the piercing is located. While certain headphones, such as over-ear headphones, may cause more discomfort to your new piercing, AirPods may be better, depending on your type of piercing.
The best way to determine if it is safe to wear your AirPods with a new piercing is to see how it feels. If you don’t feel any discomfort, you can proceed with the Airpods. However, suppose the piercing feels sore, irritated, or inflamed when wearing the piercing. In that case, wait for the piercing to heal before wearing your AirPods again.
In addition, you are recommended to avoid wearing your AirPods while doing activities that can cause your ears to sweat more, which may irritate the piercings or lead to an infection. Therefore, you may have to go to the gym without your AirPods while the piercing heals.
So, with which piercings can you wear your AirPods, and which piercings do your need to leave your Airpods out while the piercing heals?
You shouldn’t have a problem wearing your AirPods with a new lobe piercing, as the AirPods shouldn’t press on the piercing or cause any discomfort. However, if you notice that the AirPods are causing some discomfort with the new piercing, it’s best to take them out and allow the piercing to heal.
In addition, seeing how the piercing feels with the AirPods, you should also clean it thoroughly before and after inserting the Airpods. This helps reduce the bacteria around the piercing and prevents infections.
Rook piercings are located in the upper area of your ear and inserted through your ear fold’s cartilage. Because rook piercings go through cartilage, they take time to heal and may feel more tender than lobe piercings. However, because AirPods don’t press on your cartilage as headphones do, you can safely wear your AirPods while your piercing heals.
Again, suppose you notice that your piercing gets inflamed or starts hurting when wearing the AirPods. In that case, it’s better to stop wearing them until your piercing heals and starts feeling less tender.
The conch is a piece of cartilage located above your ear canal. Conch piercings are inserted through a thicker cartilage piece and take longer to heal than other ear piercings. In addition, because of where a conch piercing is located, inserting anything in or on the ear while the conch piercing heals will be painful and may lead to an infection.
Therefore, depending on how high the conch piercing is located, you must avoid inserting your AirPods for a minimum of two weeks after getting the piercing to give it time to heal fully and become less painful.
The tragus is the part of the cartilage in front of your ear canal that protects the opening. This part of the ear consists of thicker cartilage. A tragus piercing can take several months to heal fully because Airpods go into the ear canal, where the back of the tragus piercing is located.
Therefore, inserting your Airpods with a new tragus piercing will not only be painful but may also cause the piercing to become inflamed and lead to swelling and infection. You aren’t recommended to wear any headphones, including AirPods, while your tragus piercing heals.
Daith piercings are another popular choice and are inserted into the small loop in the cartilage above your ear canal. Daith piercings are inserted into a thinner piece of cartilage, meaning that they often don’t hurt as much. They also heal much quicker than other cartilage piercings, such as tragus piercings.
However, you must consider the size of your ears when deciding if you can wear your AirPods with a new daith piercing. People with larger ears have more room between the daith piercing and ear canal. Therefore, they may be able to wear AirPods while their daith piercing heals. However, those with smaller ears have less room and may have to wait for the daith piercing to heal first.
These aren’t the only ear piercings you can get. However, other piercings are mainly located away from your ear canal, so you shouldn’t have a problem wearing AirPods while these piercings heal. Another question about wearing AirPods with new ear piercings is how long an ear piercing takes to heal.
How Long Do Ear Piercings Take To Heal?
Suppose your new piercing is in a spot where you cannot wear your Airpods, or you find that your piercing hurts while wearing Airpods. In that case, you’ll want to know how long you should wait for the piercing to heal before you can start wearing your AirPods again.
Cartilage piercings may take several months to heal because of the low blood flow in the cartilage. Some ear piercings may take as long as six months to heal fully. However, some people may experience faster healing than others.
Fortunately, you don’t have to wait the entire time for your piercing to heal before wearing your AirPods again. Instead, we recommend waiting a few weeks to two months before trying your AirPods on and seeing how they feel with your new piercing.
While getting a new ear piercing is a fun experience, it can lead to you being unable to wear your AirPods for a while. Depending on the piercing’s location, you may have to leave the AirPods for a few weeks while the piercing heals to prevent pain, swelling, and possible infection.
Fortunately, most piercings heal quickly if you take care of them properly. This means that you may be able to wear your AirPods within a few days or weeks from getting your new piercing. If the AirPods don’t cause pain or swelling, feel free to wear them while your piercing heals.
